In other countries, Legionella Compliance can be up to 25 years ahead of NYC regulations especially in Europe and Asia where hundreds of deaths and thousands of sickness have occurred. In these countries, all parties involved with the system, facility and water treatment are legally bound to these outbreaks. If facilities due not follow written plans or requirements and if someone gets sick owners, facility managers, engineers, water treatment companies and individual representative can be fined. If someone dies, they could even go to jail.
In other countries, Legionella has a no tolerance policy, not only in cooling towers, but in every water system within a facility. USA is not heading down this path at the moment, however, if lawyers get involved, and legislators have someone to be held responsible this could be the next phase once the entire country is following Legionella Compliance for all of their water systems.
